#99: 10 plays we use to automate hiring trend signals

+Video of Common Room

Hi Friends,

Officially passed 10K subs today. Pretty surreal!!

I started this newsletter as a way to document my journey from the ground floor as an operator and was never expecting to have so many of you following along.

Thank you all very much for the support. It truly does mean a lot!

We obviously practice what we preach at Common Room and I think this is a play that most orgs can use with their respective personas.

Here are 10 ways to use hiring trends signals to book meetings (with video above from our Head of GTM Strategy Kevin White)

1/ Reach out to the hiring manager when there’s an open role that mentions your product.

2/ Reach out to the hiring manager when there’s an open role that mentions your competitor.

3/ Reach out to the hiring manager when there’s an open role that mentions a specific skillset—e.g., “must be familiar with Claude 3.7 Sonnet”.

4/ Reach out to the hiring manager when there’s expansion into a new region—e.g., job listings for office manager in Dublin.

5/ Prioritize accounts where there’s been a recent hiring spree—e.g., 15 AI engineers hired in the last two months.

6/ Prioritize accounts with a specific number of relevant roles open—e.g., 5+ security roles listed on the careers page.

7/ Prioritize accounts that have a set number of roles in seat—e.g., 30+ people on the SDR team.

8/ Prioritize accounts with an exec or director+ roles open (esp when that role will likely hire a team)—e.g., open role for VP of engineering.

9/ Send a congrats gift to a hiring manager when a new hire is made (oftentimes, reps target the person hired, but the hiring manager also deserves some recognition!)

10/ Run an expansion play when a new role is opened within a current customer or active product user.

Obviously we can do this all in Common Room but you can also do it manually :)

Here’s a template Kevin also put together for you all:

Was looking at [domain] and see you’re hiring for a [manager role].

Had an idea to help that hire get some quick wins and help the [number of relevant departmental team members in seat] get [desired outcome using 10k priority].

We have this [relevant resource] that other [managers roles] have found helpful.

Our product [tie product offering to resource] does all this if you’re interested.

Hope you all have a great weekend :)
